Inspiration

When we first began planning this project, we wanted to build something fun and full of Aggie spirit. Ashi, one of our teammates, is a huge fan of Pokemon, so we decided to build a Pokemon-style game based around various notable Aggie locations and memorabilia.

What it does

This is a top-down retro style RPG where you play as Revellie on her day off, searching for Aggie treasure in various landmarks around Texas A&M. You can hunt for treasure with friends, get upgrades, fight off Cadets, and even fight a Bevo raid boss!

How we built it

The frontend game was built entirely in KAPLAY.js, a Javascript game framework. The backend is built with express for barebones server handling and socket.io for the websocket multiplayer architecture.

Challenges we ran into

When starting the project, some members of our team weren't experienced in some of the tools that we selected. Notably, only one of the one of the members had experience in game development and KAPLAY. In response, we buckled down in the first hours of the competition and learned how to use KAPLAY.js, giving us enough experience to build this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're most proud of the multiplayer implementation and the Bevo boss; both features took quite a lot of trials and tribulation

What we learned

This was our first time working on a project of this scale in a team. As a result, we learned how to successfully collaborate in planning, implementation, and in technologies such as Git and GitHub.

What's next for Rev's Day Off

We hope to add a leaderboard for highest coins and more multiplayer features.
