Lots of awareness has been raised on the negative environmental impacts of single use packaging. This awareness has led to a shift in behavior to an extent, but there is still more that can be done.
What it does
We aim to motivate consumers to reuse where they can with the incentive of store discounts. Consumers can scan QR codes with the app at retailers from local shops to supermarkets when they reuse packaging. Each time they reuse they earn points which can be exchanged for store discount codes.
How we built it
Built using appery.io for both front end and backend databases.
Challenges we ran into
None of us had used this technology before and it took some time to familiarize our selves with this. We also found coming up with a cohesive viable idea (that hasn't been done in the mainstream) a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have learnt to use a new technology. Although appery.io is minimal code, this can present it's own problems and limit the flexibility we are used to with writing code from scratch. We planned to have 5 team members, but ended up with three. Between us we have produced an app with some decent functionality and an idea we are proud of.
What we learned
Using appery.io/low-code platforms. Translating an idea to a concrete solution.
What's next for ReuseToSave
We would look to engage retailers from small business to supermarkets.
