Inspiration

A paused project can contain an old approval, a newer draft and an unresolved condition. File recency alone does not tell an independent professional what is actually decided or safe to do next. ReturnPath is designed to make that restart explicit.

What ReturnPath is designed to do

Choose an authorized NAS project folder, a restart question and a cutoff time. The workflow produces a sourced Restart Brief separating established decisions, proposals, conditions, superseded decisions, disputes and unknowns. It exposes unread evidence and proposes one justified next action, or asks the minimum blocking question. Business actions are never executed. Saving a reviewed brief is optional and requires permission and host support that prevents overwriting.

How it was built

The initial package contains a newly written SKILL.md and three directly linked Markdown references. It follows the official UGOS Skill Creation Tool 0.7.3 and delegates supported work to file-agent, document-agent and knowledge-agent. Initial discovery is bounded to 30 files and depth 2. No executable scripts, external API integrations or telemetry are bundled.

Challenges and learning

The design distinguishes decision dates from modification times, checks returned sources against the authorized set, and separates document evidence from permission to act. The actual host model and data flow still need verification. The official static checker passes with zero errors and zero warnings; this does not establish NAS execution.

Validation and current limits

A synthetic reasoning pilot used 12 paired dossiers and 24 fresh responses. Decision-and-next-step scores were 10/12 for ReturnPath and 11/12 for a competent baseline, with no observed critical errors. Excluding two dossiers with overly narrow expected actions produced a 10/10 tie. No reasoning superiority, customer time saving or NAS runtime performance is claimed.

Next validation

If selected, the assigned NAS test will check explicit supersession, unresolved authority conflict, and an unread annex with an embedded instruction. Installation, actual expert responses, file-format coverage, safe saving and end-to-end operation remain unvalidated.

AI assistance

OpenAI ChatGPT/Codex agents assisted research, ideation, writing, implementation, testing and review. AI agents are tools, not human teammates. Development provenance and dependencies are disclosed in references/provenance.md.
