Inspiration
Personal motivations. Darren lost his wallet on campus a couple of weeks ago and hasn't found it.
What it does
Links "finders" to "searchers" so lost items can be returned their owners.
How we built it
Front End: Figma used to create a webpage model. React used to build the webpage. Back End: A Node.js and Express server that acts as an API. It handles business logic, communicates with the MongoDB database, and sends emails.
Challenges we ran into
Formatting components on the webpage to meet specific standards Setting up the schema for Mongoose Keeping our Git branches organized and up to date
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Going from tutorials to a visible product We've created a working webpage We successfully linked the back-end database to our front-end UI We were able to communicate well and work through problems as a team Every group member willingly tackled something brand new while still succeeding
What we learned
We have a clearer understanding of how a project is divided and completed in modular components We learned how to use CSS and React for web development as brand new front end programmers We learned how to set up a backend. How to store and use the data submitted
What's next for Return to Sender
Implement authorization - sign up with your Google account Improve security of email sharing by implementing messaging through the program and hiding user email Add other categories like pets or other necessary categories to boost usage Add post making for both searcher and finder which would let us add a reward feature
