Returns and warranties are easy to forget. People often keep receipts in emails, galleries, or physical copies and only realize the return window has expired when it is too late.

We built Return to make this simple: capture a purchase once and let the app track the return deadline and warranty period for you.

Return is a purchase and return-tracking app that helps users:

• Scan a receipt using AI to extract the store, item, price, and purchase date.
• Automatically suggest a return window based on the retailer.
• Track return deadlines with a live countdown.
• Schedule return reminders at 9 AM.
• Track warranty periods and receive warranty reminders.
• Store receipt photos locally on the device.
• Manage purchases through Returns, Warranties, and History sections.
• Upgrade to Return Pro for unlimited tracking and additional features.

The app was built with React Native, Expo, and TypeScript. Receipt images are processed using an AI vision model to extract structured purchase information. Local storage is used to keep purchase data and receipt images available on the device.

We integrated Revenue Cat for subscription management and Expo Notifications for return and warranty reminders.

One of the biggest challenges was making the app work reliably with native functionality such as notifications and in-app purchases. Expo Go has limitations for some native modules, so we created and tested the application using an Expo development build.

We also had to handle receipt image storage, date calculations, retailer return policies, notification scheduling, subscription entitlements, and keeping the interface simple enough for everyday use.

Building Return taught us how to combine AI with a practical mobile workflow instead of using AI only as a chatbot. We also learned more about native mobile development, notification scheduling, subscription integration, local data persistence, and testing a real mobile application from development to a production-ready workflow.
