Inspiration

We were inspired by the increasing difficulty people face in maintaining consistent self-reflection practices. Journaling is powerful, but often feels like a chore. After experimenting with voice agents during a previous blockchain hackathon, we saw the potential—and the limitations—of current voice AI systems. With the rise of real-time LLMs, cheaper inference, and a growing interest in mindful tech, we envisioned a better way to help people reflect, connect, and grow—simply by talking.

What it does

RetroVoice is a mobile-first voice agent that conducts guided daily or weekly reflections via natural conversation. Users speak with the agent, which: Asks thoughtful questions about their day, work, or life Uses AI to transcribe and summarize their responses Generates a short reflection summary Offers the option to share these with a social feed of like-minded users (or keep private) It transforms voice input into structured self-awareness—and optionally into social insight.

How we built it

We built RetroVoice using the following stack: Bolt, Elevenlabs, Expo

Challenges we ran into

Latency in voice-agent conversations was initially frustrating. We got many errors while vibe coding. we need to debug while looking the code with our eyes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Delivered a full end-to-end voice journaling flow in just days Designed a system that’s intuitive even for first-time users Created shareable reflections that felt personal, not just AI-generated

What we learned

Voice agents are not just assistants—they can be companions Short, thoughtful prompts work better than long open-ended ones People enjoy hearing their own thoughts reflected back clearly and empathetically Designing for emotion and reflection is as much about timing and tone as it is about language

Memory-aware voice agents: Enable long-term reflection tracking with personalized prompts Emotion analysis and trends dashboard: Help users see patterns in their mood, motivation, or growth Custom agent voices & personalities Launch public beta for creators, remote workers, and mental wellness communities
