Inspiration
Chess being a really cool game, we wanted to make a version with interesting power-ups and caveats to it.
What it does
It's normal chess but with modifications to make the gameplay more interesting. Namely power-ups such as begin immune from a kill for a turn, being able to make a move twice, etc.
How we built it
We build the game using the Unity2D engine, coding scripts in C#. Sprites were drawn using Piskel, and we made custom chip-tune sounds using Bfxr.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges we ran into was programming in the standard chess logic. This was an important part for us to get right so that we could build the custom moves atop of it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of getting the core functionality working, along with our sprite work and sounds effects. We're also proud of the new features we implemented as they really do enhance the game and change the way you play, along with the strategies you use.
What we learned
Our collaboration skills have definitely improved, along with our GameDev skills.
