Inspiration

As students born in the early 2000s, we reminisce about TV back then, when everything was done with a remote, and the TV had buttons on the bottom. That nostalgia makes us want to bring out the best elements of our childhood and blend them with modern technology.

What it does

The Retro TV lets users do ordinary Smart TV activities, like Instagram and YouTube, with a 2000s retro UI.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulty integrating certain applications into the Retro TV feature, and we also ran into audio issues that required frequent tweaks to ensure it sounded like the 2000s.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We supported several complex applications, including Instagram, YouTube, and even the web browser. We made them all look like they were simulated in the 2000s, bringing back childhood joy. Because it runs on Tauri 2.0, it works cross-platform.

What we learned

Despite technology changing constantly, we can always merge present and past elements of technology to create a product that brings the best of both. We also appreciate how technology has evolved and feel even more grateful for how we grew up with it.

What's next for Retro-TV

Retro TV will host more channels and applications while adding features like a UI that lets you switch to popular 2000s themes such as Windows Vista Aero and Windows 7 Aero. However, most importantly, we want to help those currently in today's age relive their nostalgia and childhood memories from the past based on the technology they grew up with
