Inspiration

Online Communication today is always evolving to connect all parts of the globe. Therefore, we want to develop a solution for effective communication while maintaining the security and user-experience. The main theme of the website is the galaxy. The news is MSU has helped discover a planet outside our solar system that could be capable of supporting life. We want to celebrate this accomplishment and the theme is also our project goal: communication without limit.

What it does

ReTime provides users with fast messaging and a secure network. That is, we build a Log In/Sign Up function to keep users' information confidential and help them customize their experience. Moreover, the user-friendly design of the galaxy theme is a unique idea as it has a comfortable look and is easy to use.

How we built it

Here are the techs we used:

[Firebase] - APIs and database
[Express.js], [Socket.IO], [Node.js] - chat engine, server, and package manager
[Figma], [Canva] - design the layout of the website
[Git] - version control
[HTML5], [CSS3], [Bootstrap], [Vanilla JS] - frontend tools

Challenges we ran into

We spent a large amount of time on the design and how to process and protect users' information. We had to test the responsive UI on many devices to customize our layout and explore more functions for different types of devices. Firebase is indeed a useful tool, but since we had no experience using it before, it took us a lot of time to learn to utilize it in specific situations.
