Online skincare and cosmetic shopping often leaves consumers guessing about product compatibility, leading to high return rates and poor user satisfaction. People don't evaluate their skin in abstract terms—they want immediate, transparent insights right before making a purchase decision. RetailMind AI was built to turn raw AI skin analysis into intuitive, actionable retail decisions.

What it does

RetailMind AI bridges the gap between deep AI diagnostics and consumer application:

• Live Skin AI Telemetry: Connects directly with Perfect Corp's YouCam Live S2S API to measure critical skin metrics including Hydration, Sebum/Oiliness, Redness, Pigmentation, and Skin Elasticity.
• Undertone & Skin Type Profiling: Instantly identifies skin undertones (Neutral, Cool, Warm) and primary skin types (Normal, Dry, Oily, Sensitive).
• Cosmetic Pairing Insights: Translates raw skin telemetry into tailored cosmetic shade recommendations to prevent color clashes before purchasing.
• Real-Time Live Mode: Utilizes an asynchronous background polling engine that communicates with YouCam REST endpoints seamlessly without blocking the user interface.

How we built it

• Frontend: Next.js 14, React, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript
• Backend: FastAPI (Python), Async HTTPX for asynchronous task polling
• AI Engine: Integrated Perfect Corp YouCam Live Skin AI API via server-to-server (S2S) architecture

Challenges we overcame

Handling YouCam API's asynchronous image-processing lifecycle alongside cross-origin resource sharing (CORS) required a robust backend proxy architecture. We designed a lightweight FastAPI polling mechanism that listens for task completion and updates the Next.js UI in real-time while strictly enforcing security and fallback handling.
