Rainforest

What it does

Rainforest can be divided into two complementary flows:

Shoppers: upload an inspiration photo of an outfit, product or a room/desk setup. We break it into items, and you fix anything we got wrong and confirm your size, dimensions and budget. Then we find real products across Shopify stores and build you a collection, with real prices and links!

Merchants: Stores can see user trends on product bundles that they look for together, including bundle requests. Moreover, we help merchants find complementary collaborations across stores based on their target market, even if they are brand new. We also have a feature to identify competitors in the market which can be analyzed further.

How we built it

We used a TypeScript monorepo with pnpm as our package manager. Hono server, React + Vite frontend, Zod contracts along with React Query. Vision and use OpenAI structured outputs, and Stagehand on Browserbase handles catalog collection. Package boundaries were enforced so each feature (catalog, matching, intent, platform) could be built in parallel. Moroever, we used Vitest to test our code + Biome to keep it clean

Challenges we ran into

Making sure LLMs don't try to guess sizes or dimensions from 2D images which can be highly inaccurate
Optimizing Stagehand to scour the internet for brand matches while taking the least amount of time
Collaborating between a team of 4

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Outfits, products and room setups are broken down by our API reliably, and Stagehand can efficiently search through stores to find similar products
Normalizing unstructured website data into human readable text
Seamless integration between the merchant and shopper side using our database, while keeping individual user information hidden from merchants
In a world of slop, we believe we wrote clean code verified by a ton of tests :)

What we learned

We need to be as transparent as possible about the relationship between our shopper data and merchant data if we want widespread adoption.

What's next for Rainforest?

Working on onboarding merchants directly through the Shopify, expanding our Browserbase search with a maintained database of stores, and an optional Shopify dev store action.
