Inspiration

The inspiration for ResumeBurger came from the challenges faced by job seekers in creating impactful and professionally polished documents without spending a considerable amount of time on editing and formatting. Our goal was to simplify the process using AI technology to enhance résumés and cover letters, giving users a competitive edge in their job applications.

What it does

ResumeBurger is an AI-powered platform that helps job seekers refine their résumés and generate tailored cover letters quickly and efficiently. Our service analyzes job descriptions and refines documents to ensure they meet industry standards and align with specific job roles.

How I built it

ResumeBurger was developed with a robust tech stack: the front end leverages Next.js (TypeScript), Tiptap for rich-text editing, and Tailwind CSS for styling. Our backend is built with FastAPI and utilizes PostgreSQL with SQLAlchemy for handling data. We deploy with Docker and Docker Compose, using Nginx as the reverse proxy. OpenAI powers the AI enhancements, and WeasyPrint is used for high-quality PDF generation.

Challenges I ran into

One of the primary challenges was ensuring our AI accurately understands the nuances of different industry requirements and optimizing the cover letters for specific roles. Additionally, creating a seamless user experience when uploading, editing, and managing multiple résumé versions was a technical hurdle.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm particularly proud of our platform's ability to save users time by automating tedious formatting tasks and providing an intuitive, user-friendly interface for document creation. Our feedback from early adopters has been overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the platform's value in the hiring process.

What I learned

The development of ResumeBurger taught us the importance of combining complex AI functionalities with a straightforward user interface. I also learned about the complexities of data security and the importance of maintaining user trust by implementing robust security measures.

What's next for ResumeBurger

We aim to expand our features by integrating in-depth analytics to provide users with insights into their job applications. We also plan to add more customization options for résumés and expand our platform's language support to cater to a broader audience. We are continuously gathering user feedback to iterate and enhance our offerings.
