The challenge of writing the perfect resume is a universal experience. Especially for computer science majors where majority of applications are online, resumes can make or break a student's future. This sentiment inspired us to develop Resume Wizard, a resume reviewer which returns helpful, precise advice on how to improve a resume. Using the feedback from Resume Wizard, students are able to refine their resumes, ensuring they stand out and shine.
After bypassing the paywall and inputting a resume, Resume Wizard parses through the resume and returns critical, detailed guidance on how it can be improved. With it's use of specific examples and comprehensive critiques, Resume Wizard provides an accurate reflection on the resume while also remaining encouraging and honest. It ensures students feel confident about their work and present a solid resume on any application.
To create Resume Wizard, we implemented GPT-4 which generated feedback on the inputted resume. Majority of the project is programmed in next.js, including the paywall at the beginning which utilizes Circle and MetaMask to manage the transaction of cryptocurrency. Following the paywall, users submit a resume which is then parsed through and converted into a string which GPT-4 reads through and reflects on.
We overcame various challenges including difficulty with cryptocurrency, confusion with API's, and surviving our first ever hackathon. The paywall was especially complicated to implement as none of us were very familiar with cryptocurrency and the recent release of Circle meant there were not many resources online. Mixups between the sandbox API, wallet ID, and MetaMasked ID also threw in extra roadbumps but we eventually overcame these difficulties through perseverance and diligence.
While there are many aspects of our project we are proud of, the most significant is our overall finished product. We decided to challenge ourselves to learn nest.js while also balancing cryptocurrency and GPT-4 which provided a variety of obstacles for us. Despite juggling all these new topics, we endured and developed Resume Wizard which even implemented a paywall along with css design. For us, finishing our product alone was quite a proud moment, especially with all we developed.
We learned a great deal in these past 24 hours. Not only did we complete our first ever hackathon, we also developed a great variety of skills, including next.js, managing cryptocurrency, and developing a finished product. Through collaboration and communication with other teams, we refined and learned new abilities that will play a big part in our future careers.
We have lots of plans in terms of improving and customizing the feedback returned by Resume Wizard. With the new release of customizable bots by OpenAI, we plan on training a specific resume bot which will significantly enhance our product. Additionally, we are looking to refine the paywall and continue upgrading our design. The future is exciting for Resume Wizard!
