Inspiration

Every time we applied for a job, we faced the same exhausting loop: open a resume, stare at a job description, copy-paste bullet points into ChatGPT, read the output, manually paste it back, forget which version was "the Google one," and then do it all over again for behavioral interview prep. The problem was the absence of a coherent, end-to-end workflow that understood the full arc of a job application. We also realized that behavioral interview prep suffers from a similar gap. Most people have 4–6 strong stories buried inside their work history, but they are scattered across roles, never properly structured, and certainly never mapped to the specific Leadership Principles or behavioral themes a given company will probe. One internship experience can reasonably answer questions about conflict resolution, tight deadlines, customer impact, and failure/learning — all with a different angle. Building that mapping manually is tedious and rarely done well. That is what inspired ResumeTelling: an agentic career copilot that handles the full pipeline from raw resume to tailored materials to interview-ready STAR stories.

What it does

What We Built ResumePrep AI is a full-stack web application where a user can: Upload a resume (PDF, DOCX, or plain text) and have it automatically parsed into structured sections — contact info, experience, education, projects, skills, certifications. View and manually edit any field in the parsed resume, reorder sections and entries, and save changes. Tailor resume bullets to a specific job description using AI — with options to add a summary, quantify metrics, or optimize for ATS keywords. Changes are shown as a highlighted diff before saving. Perform semantic skill matching against a job description — getting a scored breakdown of matched, partially matched, and missing skills, with explanations rather than raw percentages. Generate a cover letter from the resume content with a single click. Export the final resume to DOCX or print-to-PDF. Build STAR stories — describe a past situation in 1–3 sentences, select an experience, and the AI produces a complete Situation / Task / Action / Result story, tagged with all relevant Amazon Leadership Principles and general behavioral themes. Use the Question Coach — type any behavioral interview question and get matched to the best prepared story in your bank, with key points to emphasize.
