Inspiration

Job hunting can be overwhelming, and many applicants struggle with creating effective resumes that stand out to employers. I noticed that people often spend hours perfecting their resumes, but still receive rejections due to simple, fixable issues. I wanted to create an accessible tool that provides instant, AI-powered feedback to help job seekers improve their resumes quickly.

What I Learned

Through this project, I learned:

  • How to create responsive, user-friendly web interfaces with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • The importance of immediate, constructive feedback in productivity tools
  • Common resume mistakes and industry best practices
  • File handling and validation in web applications
  • Creating engaging user experiences with progressive disclosure

How I Built It

I built Resume Reviewer using a pure frontend stack with cloud-native architecture in mind:

  • Frontend: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+)
  • AI Integration: Google AI Studio concepts for intelligent analysis
  • Architecture: Designed for serverless deployment on Google Cloud Run
  • Features: Drag & drop file upload, real-time analysis, comprehensive scoring system

The core analysis engine evaluates resumes across three key dimensions:

\( \text{Overall Score} = 0.4 \times S_{\text{structure}} + 0.4 \times S_{\text{keywords}} + 0.2 \times S_{\text{formatting}} \)

Challenges I Faced

  1. File Validation: Implementing robust file type checking across different browsers and file formats
  2. Responsive Design: Ensuring the application works seamlessly on all device sizes from mobile to desktop
  3. User Experience: Creating intuitive workflows for first-time users without overwhelming them
  4. AI Simulation: Developing realistic analysis algorithms that provide valuable, actionable feedback
  5. Performance: Maintaining fast analysis times while providing comprehensive recommendations

Cloud Run Integration

While currently running as a local web application, the project is architecturally designed for Google Cloud Run deployment. The stateless design, efficient resource utilisation, and scalable performance make it ideal for serverless environments. The AI analysis concepts demonstrate integration potential with Google AI Studio for enhanced intelligent processing.
