ResumeForge
ResumeForge is an AI-powered resume platform that helps job seekers create polished, ATS-friendly resumes in minutes. Instead of spending hours adjusting formatting, rewriting bullet points, or creating different versions for different jobs, users can upload an existing resume and let AI generate professional, customized versions instantly.
Inspiration
Applying for internships and jobs made me realize how time-consuming resume editing can be. Every application seems to require a different version of your resume, and even small formatting issues can cause problems with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). I wanted to build a tool that could automate that process while still giving users full control over their resumes.
What it does
ResumeForge allows users to:
- Upload existing resumes
- Generate ATS-friendly resume formats
- Rewrite bullet points with AI
- Tailor resumes for specific job descriptions
- Save multiple resume versions
- Export resumes as PDFs
- Create and reuse custom AI prompts
- Share prompts with other users through a public gallery
- Manage resumes through a clean dashboard
The goal is to make resume creation faster while producing professional, recruiter-friendly results.
How we built it
ResumeForge was built as a full-stack web application using Next.js and React for the frontend. Authentication is handled through Auth0, while OpenAI powers the AI resume rewriting and formatting features. PDF generation enables users to download professional resumes, and the application stores user data securely for managing multiple resume versions and custom prompts.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was making AI-generated resumes both high quality and consistent. Different resumes require different formatting, so ensuring reliable output across many resume styles took significant prompt engineering and testing.
Generating PDFs that matched the on-screen editor was another challenge, especially with spacing and page layouts. We also spent considerable time testing exports, improving the editing experience, and ensuring the application worked reliably across browsers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a complete end-to-end AI resume platform
- Created reliable ATS-friendly resume generation
- Added resume version management
- Built reusable AI prompt libraries
- Implemented secure authentication
- Developed PDF export functionality
- Created a clean and responsive user experience
What we learned
This project taught us a lot about prompt engineering, AI evaluation, authentication, full-stack application architecture, and creating production-ready web applications. We also gained experience building features that combine AI with practical workflows users can rely on every day.
