Inspiration

Our team was motivated to create this hackathon project in order to make the lives of hardworking individuals simpler and more productive, by providing them a powerful and user-friendly platform to quickly and easily build and update their resumes. We wanted to empower them with the features of Markdown and Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, to make the process of resume building and editing faster and more intuitive, so that they can focus on the other important aspects of their lives. We have strived to create a platform that allows users to create, edit, and share their resumes in a short amount of time with minimal effort.

What it does

Our website is designed to provide job seekers with the tools they need to create a standout resume that showcases their skills, experiences, and achievements. We understand the importance of having a well-written and visually appealing resume that can grab the attention of potential employers. Using a markdown template also ensures that your resume is consistent and structured, which can make it easier for employers to quickly scan and evaluate your qualifications. Our templates are designed to showcase your skills and experiences in the best possible light, making it easier for you to land the job you want. In addition to our markdown templates, we also offer a range of optimization tools that can help you improve your resume's performance. Our optimization tools can help you identify areas where your resume needs improvement and provide you with personalized feedback on how to make your resume more attractive to employers.

How we built it

Our website was built using the Next.js React-based framework and the Chakra UI open-source design system for the frontend, while leveraging Firebase and JavaScript for the backend. This allows us to create dynamic, performant, and visually appealing web applications.

For the backend, we used JavaScript as our primary programming language. JavaScript is a popular and versatile language that allows us to write scalable and efficient code for the web. We have also utilized other libraries and tools such as Node.js, Express.js, and TypeScript in order to augment the functionality and performance of our website. With these tools, we are able to create a powerful, user-friendly experience that can help job seekers quickly and easily build and update their resumes. In addition, our optimization tools help users identify areas where their resume needs improvement, and provide them with personalized feedback on how to make their resumes more attractive to employers.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge we had to deal with was outputting a markdown file to a html to a pdf eventually. We solved this by using packages like JSPDF to accomplish our goal. Another challenge we ran into is build errors, mainly related to outdated packages and the high amount of packages installed. Lastly, we also were very indecisive about our method for the resume creator. Whether it would be a series of input questions or a markdown live code editor.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of our achievements, particularly in the development of our Markdown editor. We're thrilled to have implemented a live preview feature, as well as a CSS styler that can seamlessly export to a PDF file. Additionally, we're excited about our Resume Scorer, which utilizes natural language processing to evaluate resumes and provide a score out of 10. It's another outstanding accomplishment we're proud to have achieved.

What we learned

Participating in this event has given us with numerous opportunities to learn and grow as a team. One of the most significant things we've learned is experience with live code editors. Working on this project has allowed us to experiment with a variety of tools and techniques like Framer Motion. Through our work on this project, we have also had the opportunity to dive deeper into general back-end concepts, expanding our knowledge and skillset.
