Inspiration
We both felt immense dread returning to college knowing that we would have to eat the flash-frozen, bland, and repetitive college food. Restful Recipe's goal is to provide college students with recipes that can make themselves in their very own dorm. It is time we make homemade meals away from home.
What it does
Users are able to view, search, or add any recipes to our website. Upon viewing, a full list of ingredients, all directions, and the duration of the cooking time is shown.
How we built it
We used Ruby on Rails, Bootstrap, VS Code, and Atom
Challenges we ran into
- coding across time zones
- translating form input into params
- adding bootstrap
- trying to use heroku
- one teammate dropped from our team
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud to have worked with Ruby on Rails as we do not have much prior experience with this language and framework. Making this project was a huge learning curve and we both have learned more about Ruby on Rails and intend to work with it again in the future.
What we learned
- using RoR for first time
- learned how to collab with different time zones
- the ins and outs of RoR
- database development
What's next for Restful Recipes
We would like to add an API to our functionality to ensure that we are discovering the plethora of meals that are college student-friendly. We would also like to add an option for the user to have the ingredients list automatically transferred to the cart of wherever they choose to do grocery shopping.
