The Inspiration

A busy restaurant is basically a small real-time system.

A waiter is taking an order, the kitchen is preparing another table's food, a customer is asking for something extra, and the cashier may be processing a bill — all at the same time.

That made me think:

What if a restaurant had its own digital operating system?

Instead of using separate tools for tables, orders, kitchen tickets, and billing, I wanted to bring the entire workflow into one connected system.

That idea became Drishya Restaurant Digital Operating System.

Drishya means "vision", and the goal was to give restaurant staff a clear view of everything happening inside the restaurant.

🏨 What I Built

Drishya OS is a browser-based internal operating system designed for restaurant staff — not customers.

It manages the complete dine-in workflow:

Table → Order → Kitchen → Preparation → Serving → Billing → Payment → Table Available

The system includes four main staff experiences:

  • 🍽️ Waiter / Service — manages tables and takes orders
  • 🍳 Kitchen / KDS — receives and processes kitchen tickets
  • 💳 Cashier — handles bills and payments
  • 📊 Admin — monitors restaurant operations and manages the menu

The system currently models 24 tables across 6 zones and includes 50+ menu items across 12 categories.

🔄 One of the Main Ideas: Ordering in Rounds

One challenge I wanted to solve was the common situation where guests order more food after their first order has already been sent to the kitchen.

Instead of replacing the previous order, Drishya creates a new round under the same table and order.

For example:

Table 07
   │
   ├── Round 1 → Momo + Noodles
   │
   ├── Round 2 → Coffee + Dessert
   │
   └── Round 3 → Additional Items
                │
                ▼
          One Final Bill
