Inspiration
The project was inspired by the growing demand for efficient online food ordering systems. I wanted to build a platform that simulates a real-world restaurant ordering experience while focusing on backend reliability and data accuracy.
What it does
This is a full-stack food delivery and order management system that allows users to:
- Browse menu items
- Place and track food orders
- View detailed order summaries
- Manage menu items (add, update, delete)
- Simulate delivery workflow with driver management
The system is designed to handle real-world scenarios such as order validation, structured data storage, and dynamic updates.
How I built it
The application was built using:
- PHP for backend logic and server-side processing
- MySQL for database design and data management
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend interface
- XAMPP/Apache for local development and server hosting
I designed relational database schemas to manage users, orders, menu items, and delivery data. SQL queries were implemented to ensure efficient data retrieval and updates.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was designing a structured and scalable database that could handle multiple relationships between orders, users, and menu items. Ensuring data consistency and preventing invalid transactions also required careful backend validation.
Another challenge was managing dynamic updates across the system, especially when modifying menu items or processing orders in real time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Built a fully functional full-stack web application from scratch
- Designed and implemented a relational database system
- Successfully handled order processing and data validation
- Created a user-friendly interface for both customers and admin functionality
What I learned
This project strengthened my understanding of:
- Full-stack web development
- Relational database design and SQL
- Backend validation and data integrity
- Connecting frontend interfaces with backend systems
What's next
Future improvements include:
- Adding user authentication and accounts
- Integrating online payment systems (e.g., Stripe)
- Enhancing UI/UX design
- Deploying the application to a cloud environment
