Inspiration
I wanted to create a simple but useful tool that helps people quickly find great places to eat while also experiencing how AI can improve everyday decisions.
What it does
It helps users find nearby restaurants on a map and get smart suggestions from AI to choose the best place to eat.
How we built it
We used React for the interface, Leaflet for the map, and Google Gemini AI to give personalized restaurant recommendations based on user questions
Challenges we ran into
We couldn’t use Google Maps because billing was needed, so we switched to open tools. We also worked on making location detection accurate and AI answers more helpful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working, user-friendly app in a short time and successfully combined maps with AI to improve the restaurant search experience.
What we learned
We learned how to use AI in real apps, display location-based data on maps, and quickly adapt when APIs have limits.
What's next for Restaurant Finder
We plan to add real restaurant data, user accounts, favorites, reviews, and better filters like price, cuisine, and ratings.
