Inspiration

I created this since I’m an extremely nervous person. Small misunderstandings can leave me out of breath and sleepless for days. I nervously googled calming exercises for ages, watched three ads before I could breathe with a tutorial from YouTube. So I decided to create something that I know would help me, and other people too. As for the actual exercises, I looked for inspiration everywhere. I was thinking about my past, texting friends (and got a few calls because apparently texting “What do you do in case of extreme negative emotions?” can cause worry out of context), asked psychology students and AI chatbots.

What it does

Rest Point is a Unity project created to make a calming space for people to come to every day. At first, it is a mood tracker with a simple monthly calendar that shows you in colors how you felt in the past days of the month. You can pick from eight different moods. But it is not only that! The main purpose of Rest Point was to group all calming exercises that I or my loved ones personally use in the form of one app. There are breathing exercises that have calmed me from the border of a panic attack so many times I can't count. There is a painting tool that my mother, a teacher, uses with her students. There is a writing and destroying tool that two of my best friends use when they have their heads full. There are exact videos that carried me through studying for my final high school exams. There are calming sounds that psychology textbooks recommend. And there is also a grounding exercise that is highly recommended to come back from a panic state. I tried to create it as easy to use and with calming, not overwhelming colors as possible, so it actually can help people.

How we built it

I used Unity because I’m a game development student and Unity feels like home. /I thought to myself that during creating a wellness app, I want to feel well too. As for AI usage, it came out in different ways. I found the perfect color palette, but it had too few colors - I asked Claude if it could gather more in a similar energy. I asked it to check my English since it is not my first language. As stated above, I asked it if it could state some self-help ideas too. I frequently ask both Claude and ChatGPT for help with debugging my code or redoing it in a more efficient way. Both of them are on free mode, that’s the life of a university student. I also think I use AI as, in my mind, it was intended. As a helper, something to quicken progress but still leave the human as the heart of it. Challenges we ran into

Unity has its issues. The biggest issue every person using this engine face is that build doesn't always work the same as it did in editor. During building of Rest Point it happened a lot...

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I managed to put everything I planned in my scope to this. Also it was first as dealined competition in with I managed to keep myself healthy, take breaks, sleep 8 hours. I really wanted to make wellness app with wellness in mind.

What we learned

How to put videos in unity! i also tried a lot of UI stuff that I usually don't use in my games, it definitely will come in hand one day

What's next for Rest Point

I would like to add note taking to calendar and some stats about what helped user in which mood.

Also additional! The best way to test it is by trying it on build, it's on google drive link. It iszip of ready-to-use build, you just have to click on the .exe file and it should work:)
