Inspiration
Every day, perfectly edible food from restaurants, hostels, weddings, and homes is wasted while thousands of people still go hungry. We wanted to create a simple platform that makes donating surplus food as easy as ordering it.
What it does
ResQFood connects food donors with NGOs and volunteers. Donors can post surplus food, NGOs can claim available donations, and volunteers coordinate pickup and delivery, ensuring food reaches people before it expires.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React, TypeScript, Vite, and Tailwind CSS, while the backend is powered by Spring Boot with REST APIs. Data is managed using PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM, with separate dashboards for donors, NGOs, and volunteers.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was creating a smooth workflow between three different user roles while keeping the application responsive and intuitive within a short hackathon timeline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
->Role-based dashboards ->End-to-end donation workflow ->Donation tracking with status updates ->Modern responsive UI
What we learned
Building ResQFood taught us much more than creating a web application. We learned how to design a real-world solution, develop a role-based system for donors, NGOs, and volunteers, build REST APIs, manage databases, and create a responsive user interface. Most importantly, we learned the value of teamwork, rapid problem-solving, and turning a social issue into a practical technology solution.
What's next for RESQFOOD
We're planning to add AI-based donation matching, real-time notifications, live map tracking, and analytics to help reduce food waste on a larger scale.
