Inspiration

Snakebite incidents pose a significant threat in numerous regions, resulting in severe health complications and, in some cases, fatalities. One primary issue exacerbating the gravity of these incidents is the absence of immediate assistance. Many individuals lack the knowledge required to identify the snake responsible for the bite or administer crucial first aid promptly. This knowledge gap contributes to delayed responses and inadequate initial care, heightening the risk of complications.

Furthermore, even when individuals seek medical attention, another pressing challenge emerges: limited access to anti-venom treatment. Locating hospitals equipped with the necessary resources for snakebite victims, especially in remote and underserved areas, proves to be a daunting task. The scarcity of such facilities exacerbates the already critical nature of snakebite incidents, leaving affected individuals without timely and appropriate medical interventions.

Adding to the complexity of the issue is the overarching problem of a lack of public awareness and education. Communities often remain uninformed about the diverse species of snakes inhabiting their surroundings, their behaviors, and the crucial role these creatures play in ecosystems. This deficit in awareness not only perpetuates fear but also hinders efforts to foster coexistence and conservation. By neglecting education on preventive measures and understanding snake behavior, communities miss an opportunity to mitigate the frequency and severity of snakebite incidents.

Addressing these interconnected challenges requires a comprehensive approach encompassing immediate response training, improved healthcare infrastructure, and robust public education campaigns. By bridging these gaps, it is possible to reduce the impact of snakebite incidents, save lives, and promote a harmonious coexistence between humans and snakes while fostering a greater understanding of the importance of snake conservation.

What it does

Our team proposes a multifaceted approach to address the identified problems, centered around two key solutions: Snake Identification and Emergency Services Integration, and Hospital Locator and First Aid Information.

In tackling the challenge of snake identification and response, we have developed a cutting-edge machine learning-based system. This technology is seamlessly integrated into a user-friendly mobile app, enabling quick and accurate snake identification. This empowers individuals to assess potential threats in their surroundings promptly. Furthermore, the app facilitates a direct link to emergency services and nearby snake rescuers, ensuring a swift and coordinated response in the event of snakebite incidents. This integrated solution aims to minimize the response time, providing immediate assistance to those in need.

In the realm of healthcare support, our team introduces the Hospital Locator and First Aid Information solution. The app delivers real-time information about nearby hospitals equipped with anti-venom supplies, thereby significantly reducing delays in accessing life-saving treatment. Additionally, the app offers detailed first aid information, enabling users to take immediate measures while waiting for professional medical assistance. This comprehensive support system enhances the chances of positive outcomes in snakebite cases.

Beyond immediate crisis management, our team recognizes the importance of education and conservation efforts. To this end, the app incorporates an educational component that disseminates information about various snake species, their habitats, and ongoing conservation initiatives. By promoting awareness and understanding, the app contributes to the larger goal of snake conservation and minimizes unnecessary harm to these vital elements of ecosystems. This holistic approach not only addresses the immediate issues related to snake bites but also fosters a long-term impact on snake-human interactions and environmental preservation.

In summary, our proposed solutions leverage advanced technology, seamless integration with emergency services, and a commitment to education and conservation. This approach aims not only to mitigate the immediate risks associated with snakebites but also to foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and snakes while contributing to the broader goal of biodiversity conservation.

How we built it

Our Technology leverages Flutter as a stack for our mobile app and Django as a server backend. The usual camera feature is in-built in our app to identify snakes and classify them as venomous or not. It also allows users to pre-alert the hospitals incase of snake bites which ensures the availability of anti-venom and inform rescuers to rescue the identified snakes.
