Inspiration

After witnessing the challenges faced by communities during Hurricane Helene, we saw the urgent need for a streamlined disaster relief system. Many struggled to find essential supplies due to fragmented or inaccessible information. This inspired us to create Aid-Up: a platform that connects individuals with life-saving resources and facilitates efficient disaster response.

What it does

Aid-Up is a location-based platform that connects disaster-affected individuals with available aid, including food, water, medical supplies, and local organizations to support. Users can request resources, find verified aid providers, and offer assistance to those in need. By centralizing relief efforts, AidUp reduces response times and ensures critical supplies reach the right people faster.

How we built it

We developed Aid-Up using a combination of front-end and back-end technologies to create a user-friendly and efficient platform. We used Figma to create the UI and incorporated Glide to develop the front-end. We used JSONata for querying our data. Our design prioritizes accessibility, ensuring users can navigate the app seamlessly, even in high-stress situations.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was implementing real-time updates while maintaining reliability, especially in low-connectivity environments. We also faced difficulties in designing a system that efficiently connects users with verified aid sources. Managing time constraints and coordinating tasks remotely added to the complexity, but we overcame these obstacles through strategic planning and collaboration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating an app that has the potential to make a real impact in disaster response. Successfully implementing location-based aid tracking and a seamless request system was a major achievement. Additionally, gathering insights from real disaster survivors allowed us to design a solution that directly addresses their challenges.

What we learned

Throughout this process, we gained valuable technical skills, including working with location-based services and real-time data updates. More importantly, we learned the power of teamwork, user-centered design, and the importance of adaptability in solving real-world problems.

What's next for Aid-Up

We plan to enhance Aid-Up by adding multilingual support, improving offline functionality for low-connectivity areas, and expanding partnerships with relief organizations. Our goal is to scale the platform globally, ensuring disaster-affected communities everywhere have quick and reliable access to life-saving resources.
