Inspiration

In emergencies, seconds matter, but people often don’t know whom to contact or how fast help can arrive. We wanted to create a simple, automated, and accessible system that can alert nearby helpers and escalate to emergency contacts instantly, even in low-connectivity situations.

What it does

ResQ allows anyone to press a single SOS button to trigger emergency alerts. The system:

  • Detects emergency type (medical, fire, accident)
  • Sends automated notifications to the right contacts
  • Simulates offline peer-to-peer alerts when internet is unavailable
  • Logs incidents for follow-up, all in one-click simplicity

How we built it

  • Frontend: Next.js single-page site with a big SOS button
  • Future-ready: Designed to integrate with peer-to-peer mesh networks for real offline scenarios

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing a user-friendly one-click system while maintaining automation
  • Simulating offline mode without full mesh network hardware
  • Ensuring n8n integration works locally and can be demoed online
  • Making alerts instant, noticeable, and intuitive

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Created a fully functional, deployable SOS system in a few days
  • Demonstrated hybrid offline-online logic effectively
  • Made a one-click, universal alert interface suitable for anyone

What we learned

  • Emergency systems need to minimize user effort while maximizing impact
  • Even a partial offline solution can significantly improve response times
  • Rapid prototyping with Next.js is possible and effective
  • Clear communication of limitations vs. capabilities is key for judges

What's next for ResQ

  • Implement real peer-to-peer mesh network for full offline functionality
  • Add IoT / hardware alerts for local responders
  • Expand automation logic for smarter routing based on location, availability, and emergency type
  • Optimize mobile experience for maximum accessibility

Happy Coding :)
