Inspiration

Disaster response is often hampered by delayed communication, fragmented data, and slow resource deployment. During critical emergencies, every second lost costs lives. We were inspired to build ResQ AI to bridge the gap between initial crisis reporting and real-time emergency action—creating an intelligent system that aggregates live hazard data, optimizes emergency routing, and accelerates disaster response.

What it does

ResQ AI is an intelligent disaster management and emergency response platform designed to streamline crisis operations.

  • Live Hazard Mapping: Real-time tracking and visualization of affected areas.
  • Smart Resource Allocation: AI-driven matching of emergency personnel and relief supplies to high-prioity locations.
  • Optimized Emergency Routing: Intelligent navigation to help first responders bypass blocked roads and active hazards.
  • Actionable Alerts: Instant notifications for operational teams to execute fast, coordinated relief efforts.

How we built it

  • Frontend: Built with a responsive web framework for real-time visualization and interactive emergency dashboards.
  • Backend & AI Logic: Powered by intelligent routing algorithms and data pipelines to analyze incident streams instantly.
  • Data & Maps: Integrated spatial data and live mapping services to project emergency zones dynamically.

Challenges we ran into

  • Real-Time Data Processing: Handling incoming hazard feeds and route calculations without high latency.
  • Dynamic Route Optimization: Recalculating safe navigation paths on the fly as hazards and road closures evolve.
  • Resource Prioritization: Balancing supply allocation fairly across multiple high-priority impact zones.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully integrating real-time hazard mapping with automated dispatch intelligence.
  • Building a seamless dashboard capable of translating chaotic crisis data into clear, actionable emergency routes.
  • Keeping latency low while processing live spatial data.

What we learned

  • Effective emergency response tools must prioritize extreme simplicity so operators can act without cognitive overload.
  • Real-time spatial tracking requires lightweight backend pipelines to deliver accurate updates reliably during high-traffic events.
