Inspiration
When our team began thinking about solutions to problems presented by COVID-19, our initial idea was to create a platform that allowed for contactless between customers and restaurants. As we investigated the solution further, we identified other issues faced by restaurants. Our service offerings then transitioned to easing the restaurant owner experience.
What it does
When our team began thinking about solutions to problems presented by COVID-19, our initial idea was to create a platform that allowed for contactless between customers and restaurants. As we investigated the solution further, we identified other issues faced by restaurants. Our service offerings then transitioned to easing the restaurant owner experience.
How we built it
- We used AWS Amplify as our platform.
- We used Visual Studio go code and we used Node.JS to build scalable network applications.
- We also used React Native because it makes super easy and simple UI's.
- We used GitHub libraries and Hero library to create a good-looking app.
Challenges we ran into
- We couldn't find data about advertising on food applications.
- Finding information on ad revenue
- Slack messages disappearing (lost a lot of information)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- You are able to order online from the convenience and comfort of your table
- You can pay at your table from your phone anytime
- All-in-one app for ordering, payment and communication from the restaurant on all COVID related news
- We built two apps; one for the patron, one for the restaurant.
- Restaurant analytics built into the restaurant facing app, which includes average wait times and most ordered items.
- You can decide if you want food dropped off at your table or you can pick it up at a designated location.
- Users can also favorite restaurants that they frequent or enjoy most.
What we learned
We believe one of the biggest take aways from this challenge was the ability to work in a team with a diverse array of different attributes. Our team was driven, and excited to come up with a solution, but, early into the program, we were having trouble coming up with a solidified choice. We learned that is important to hear different perspectives and formulate a solution. Working virtually in teams can be complicated due to the time constraints, yet, we made it work. All of us are now more informed about the technology and business aspects of local restaurants.
What's next for Response to issues faced by restaurants resulting from COVID
We plan to offer more services that enable restaurant owners to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Among these would be creating a waitlist for customers to know what spot they are at in the line, creating additional graphs to track data for restaurant owners, and allowing users to filter restaurants by location and type.
