Inspiration

We were inspired to create Respondr AI to help people who are in danger but can’t speak out loud, like during a home invasion or a medical emergency.

What it does

Respondr AI is a chatbot that talks with people through text and can recognize when someone is in distress. If it senses an emergency, it can silently alert emergency services or a trusted contact.

How we built it

We built the chatbot using AI to understand messages, a Node.js backend to handle the logic, and a simple React interface for users. We also added a system to detect emergency words and simulate sending alerts.

Challenges we ran into

It was hard to make sure the chatbot only sends alerts when there’s a real emergency. We also had to carefully design the way it responds so it’s calm, helpful, and protects the user’s privacy.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that Respondr AI can recognize serious situations and guide people during a crisis. The design is easy to use, and we were able to create a working demo that simulates sending emergency alerts.

What we learned

We learned how to use AI in sensitive situations, how important design is during emergencies, and how to build systems that are both smart and safe.

What's next for Respondr AI

Next, we want to connect Respondr AI to real emergency services, add support for more languages, allow it to work offline, and possibly add whisper detection for people who can’t type.
