Inspiration
We were inspired by the study that showed there are not enough resources for healthcare personnel to effectively operate ventilators, especially in developing countries.
What we learned
We learned a lot about mechanical ventilators, the components that allow them to sustain a patient, and the various complications that can arise from mistakes when operating a mechanical ventilator.
Development
Our project was built using JAVA and Android Studio. We started with research and built our algorithm around what we found, and then implemented that into code.
Challenges
The most challenging aspect was the multiple conflicting resources we came across online, and trying to determine what information was best suited to our research.
What’s next for Respire
In future versions, we hope to implement additional features, such as a map locating critical care ventilation areas for medical professionals, and interactive educational components. Also, in our model, we would like to allow for greater inclusivity, including patients less than one year of age, patients with complex disabilities or diseases, and transgender patients on cross-hormone therapy.
