Inspiration

We wanted to continue the spirit of the hackathon as it is geared toward women so we decided to do a project centered around women and we progressed from there.

What it does

Women 4 resources allow women to find free resources including clothing, food, housing, feminine products, mental health, and restrooms/bathing. They use the provided checks to broaden or narrow their search to find exactly what they need.

How we built it

We used react-bootstrap and HTML to create the website. We also implemented the Google Maps API and its geolocation API so users can see resources near them on a map and also pan to their current location. We decided the best way to publish the website would be through GitHub pages.

Challenges we ran into

Considering our level of web development it was a challenge learning how to use react and react-bootstrap to create the website. We also had difficulties with pushing the website to GitHub.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of creating some type of product for our first hackathon, especially since we came in with basically no background in web dev and apis!

What we learned

We learned the basics of using react and react-bootstrap. We also experienced creating a technical project under extreme time limits.

What's next for Resources 4 Women

Resources 4 Women is in its early stages so it has the potential to expand into something much more complex and useful for the public. We plan to implement a database with info on all resources and connect that database to the search bar and google map API. Another important feature to add would be a way for resource providers to submit their resource listing to the database and for users to rate and comment on their experiences at the resource providers.
