Inspiration

We were thrilled by the endless possibilities of a world gearing towards data science more heavily day after day, however, it is quite shocking for us to be burst out of our bubble and realize this is still a niche concept that not many people are aware of, reserved only for top businesses and excluding small entrepeneurs. Managing resources comes at a heavy moment for us, as we face one of the biggest water crisis in a metropolitan area that no one could have ever imagined. But we believe that having the right insights will allow us to embark toward these challenges.

What it does

Using a graph data structure, the Resource Delegation tool gathers a list of multiple nodes connected among them, detailing how much of any resource is moved between any of them. From production pipelines, the water flow, the money revenue that comes from the top all across the bottom of a company, or even a for simple financial assistance, this tool allows us to more directly see the outcome of our distributions, as well as returning the proper insights to advice us in our choises.

How we built it

This is primarily a Firebase-hosted full-stack web application that handles heavy data structures and algorithms on the NodeJS back-end to organize the information, and displays it nicely using different React front-end visualization libraries. At the same time we crafted a middle-ware service hosted in Heroku that hosts all of the machine-learning related operations, running in Python and served in FastAPI.

Challenges we ran into

This project involved gathering all of the knowledge gathered around our careers, and each task felt like a little LeetCode or brain teaser due to the ambiguity of the problems tackled. Deploying the application and ensuring everything was connected together was one of the trickier sections. Still, even with this dificulties we enjoyed every second of it 🙌.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When testing our application and seeing some of our hypothesis insights being uncovered for the first time we were almost in the brink of tears. Some of the details were surprising, some of them were funny or expected, but we were not sure and had the data to back up our claims.

What we learned

"So this is how a Full-Stack project feels!", was one of the common moods across the day and night. We are now in our last year of our careers and many of us developed a passion for different things across the year, this was now the time to put everything into the pot and everyone concentrating on their experteise, this became one of the most enjoyable proyects we have had ✨

What's next for Resource Delegation

Little can be said about someone bragging about their own creation, but this tool feels like something that can really make an impact. Will we choose to focus on an open source architecture, or maybe going to a company and emphasize the business value that comes from this, we have yet to decide that but we all agree that this is just the beginning.
