Inspiration
I (Sayan) and my friend Swapnil are there in linkedin platform from quite a long time. Linkedin is a professional platform where job related stuffs are posted as well as people shares their experiences there too. The most common thing which we saw is engineering people are graduating and after that they mainly shifts to tech cities (like Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, etc.) and most of the time (specially Bangalore people) finds difficulty in searching flats for themselves. Not only the tech people but people such as tourists also sometimes gets misguided and couldn't find themselves a shelter int the new country or region. This inspired us to build Resort Paradise.
What it does
Now the most important thing, what is Resort Paradise? So the Resort Paradise helps user to create their user account and book their favourite hotels within their suitable dates and also lets them to select the number of persons they are with (like children, adult, etc). Then they can select the hotels and at the end book the rooms accourdingly (i.e, rooms will be booked on the availability, it might happen the room which he want to book has been already booked booked by previous user).
How we built it
We used ReactJS and CSS to build the frontend of the website and used NodeJs, ExpressJS as the backend and used MongoDB for the Database.
Challenges we ran into
The main challanges we faced is to build the search api and the search bar in the frontend because it is the main stuff within the whole project. The searchbar holds the destination name, min price, max price, date and the total number of people. The second challange we faced is the hosting of images in the cloudinary. So basically we at first used cloudinary to host our images but due to high image size and lots of images, the cloudinary was not working well and the images were loading slowly. And also we had very less time to think of any other solution. So we used a very special trick. We used the booking.com server and fetched their images from there and posted it in our database and later on all our images were fetched from the database.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We (Sayan and Swapnil) are proud of that though facing a lot of issues, we finally completed our project and the project is working well in the locally. We only couldn't able to host it because of Heroku's change in their policies of hosting the applications.
What we learned
The most important thing we learnt while doing this project, is the team work. Also we learned how to integrate the frontend and the backend codes since I(Sayan) is more interested in frontend and Swapnil is in backend. We also learned how to manage time and work in pressure and respect each others decision with proper and valid reasons.
What's next for Resort Paradise
Resort Paradise is just the starting and it can be carried to a long way.
- More pages can be build like help and support, founders page, and many more to help the people more understand our product
- At this point we haven't hosted the application but later on we are thinking of hosting it.
At the end we want to thank "SparkHub Winter" to organize this hackathon since we learnt so much within this short period of time. Thank You, Sayan Maity Swapnil Sarkar
