Inspiration

Hey, I'm Anuj Phulera, co-founder of Resonate with Aarav Choudhary. Late 2024, we were both exhausted by the doom-scroll—endless feeds of filtered perfection, viral fakes, and notifications that left us more isolated than ever. Stats were brutal: 70% of teens anxious from comparisons, 61% of users burned out, and average daily scroll time hitting 147 minutes. Personally, my posts got three likes in 15 minutes (feeling invisible much?), and Aarav's real stories vanished in the noise. Social media had become repetitive rot—no emotions, just algorithms chasing engagement. Inspired by therapy circles, collaborative art, and ancient storytelling, we dreamed of flipping it: a platform for vulnerability over virality. Resonate was born to make the internet kinder, amplifying humanity with AI empathy. As our site says, "Where Emotions Connect and Stories Grow"—that's the fire that fueled us.

What it does

Resonate is a revolutionary social ecosystem that swaps likes for real connections, turning digital noise into emotional resonance. At its heart: AI-powered authenticity verification detects genuine feelings in voice/text (tone, rhythm, energy—no fakes), rewarding honesty with XP and levels. Users get daily "Good Quests" (e.g., voice-note gratitude), share in a Tapestry Feed where stories weave into shared narratives, and join Resonance Circles for safe convos. Our five-app universe guides the emotional journey:

  • Quest App: Personalized challenges building awareness.
  • Echo Studio: Record/remix raw emotions.
  • Tapestry Hub: AI-curated collaborative stories.
  • Mirage Lab: Emotions into art clips.
  • Resonance Circles: Intimate digital comfort zones.

How we built it

RESONATE is built using JavaScript with the Next.js framework for a fast, scalable, and modern web experience. Development was done in VS Code, integrating AI capabilities powered by Gemini to enable emotion-aware feeds, quests, and creative interactions. The platform includes secure login, signup, and user verification systems, ensuring safety and trust, while empathy-driven AI features guide responsible and meaningful engagement throughout the app.

Challenges we ran into

Emotion AI was poetic but punishing—early models flubbed sarcasm 30% of the time, so weeks fine-tuning diverse datasets (accents/cultures) ate our sleep. Adoption? TikTok habits die hard; 40% beta drop-off until XP onboarding tweaks. As a duo, bandwidth crushed us—Aarav battled backend glitches, I Figma'd UIs amid sprints, flirting with burnout (meta, huh?). Privacy regs loomed (overbuilt consent flows), and pitching our raw "why" (digital scars) to investors felt exposing. Market's $12.87B wellness-tech goldmine, but emotional social's niche—crowded yet untapped (just 5% share). We pushed through, turning hurdles into heart.
