Inspiration
Managing exam schedules across multiple colleges is a logistical nightmare. Double-booking halls, exceeding seating capacities, and manual seat allocation are common issues that cause chaos during exam periods. We built ReservIt to eliminate these headaches and bring smart automation to educational administration, ensuring a stress-free experience for both staff and students.
What it does
ReservIt is a comprehensive, smart Exam Hall Reservation System. It allows administrators and college representatives to schedule exams effortlessly:
- Smart Conflict Detection: It mathematically calculates time intervals to prevent overlapping bookings in the same hall.
- Auto-Allocation Engine: Dynamically distributes students across multiple halls if one isn't enough, assigning exact seat ranges.
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Admins have global control, while College Reps manage their specific faculty's exams.
- Printable Schedules: Generates clean, print-ready PDF reports for student notice boards.
How we built it & Structured Conversations with MeDo
To maximize efficiency, we used a Layered Prompting Strategy:
- The Data Layer: Established the relational schema (Colleges, Halls, Exams, Allocations).
- The Security Layer: Implemented RBAC and authentication logic.
- The Core Logic: Focused on prompting the complex seat-allocation and time-conflict algorithms.
Note on Authentication: For the purpose of this hackathon and to ensure a smooth evaluation experience for the judges, we have intentionally simplified the login process to require only an email address. In a production environment, this will be replaced with a robust email and password system, including a secure password reset mechanism. This current setup is a deliberate choice for this prototype/demo to provide immediate access for review.
The most impressive feature MeDo helped create
The Time-Conflict Resolution & Auto-Allocation Engine. We successfully guided MeDo to write a mathematical helper function that converts time strings into absolute minutes, creating a flawless, collision-proof booking system.
Challenges we ran into
We resolved a React state concurrency issue where the system tried to allocate seats before the exam record was fully committed. We refactored the logic to ensure synchronous execution, guaranteeing every exam has its assigned seats immediately.
