Inspiration
All four of us are actively seeking research in our fields and have felt the difficulty in finding a professor who is #1 willing to take on undergraduate researchers and #2 have similar research interests to us.
What it does
Matches students and professors for research based on a similarity level. Keywords from students' resumes and professors' research abstracts are used in calculating the similarity score.
How we built it
We built our app using react for our frontend and Python using flask to handle all of our backend including calcination and API pushes.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we ran into was implementing the model as it was difficult to deploy and caused us to remove parts of it in the final version. Model complexity, resource efficiency, and other factors were things we had to consider in our model selection.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are all very proud for building a functioning app and all implementing technologies we have not even touched before.
What we learned
A lot of us learned new skills including natural language processing, react, and similarity calculations. We also learned how to coordinate as a team, each possessing a unique and diverse set of skills.
What's next for ResearcherMatcherer AI
We are going to double down and an a high accuracy AI and work to better match students and professors, making both a professor and student UI and more!
