Inspiration

Teachers, students are encouraged to take up research and innovate. Current accreditation, ranking and grading norms emphasises research work and publications by both students and faculty. In order to take up research work and subsequently make publications of research findings, to collaborate and network with others who are working on similar problems there is a need to participate in global, national and local workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, etc. Students have to search for information about dates, places and themes of such academic confluences. Lot of time and efforts are wasted in this regard and despite that they may miss out vital information and chance to make presentations. Availability of single portal will be extremely useful for obtaining the information about all academic activities across the country, universities and international arena in chronological order and in subject areas so as to enable the students, faculty, and researchers to access information and prepare well in advance and participate effectively and successfully with the help of well-known researchers, helpful mentor and the awesome community.

What it does

A one stop platform for students/researchers/industry experts to collaborate on research papers. The platform will have every user create a profile to avail of the services. First service will be to upload a request to collaborate on a research paper. This can either be just an idea for a paper, a half written paper, implementation done but paper not yet written, etc. along with how many people are required. Others can then send requests based on their interest and the person who put up the request can then select who they want to collaborate with based on the profile of the interested people. If the requirements are full and they accept the required people for the paper then the request should close. The next service will be the section for mentors. These will be industry experts/long time researchers who can mentor/guide people for their papers. Mentors can put up their area of expertise along with proof about the same. Research students can then select a mentor if required by browsing through the section. The last section will be for conferences taking place so that the papers can be presented there.

How we built it

At first we selected our problem statement, then we designed a road map which included creating a flow diagram, designing the web pages and the actual implementation. HTML, CSS and javascript were used in this process. We also created in-house graphics through Canva and Blender.

Challenges we ran into

Like every other website developer we had this alignment issue. To overcome it we used the pesticide extension which helped us navigate the issue and with the css position property we overcame the problem in seconds

Accomplishments that we're proud of

1) The Dashboard: Our dashboard is one stop destination to all your present and previous research papers and mentors. 2) Mentors page: What better than your mentors linkedln profile to know about them, their experience and knowledge. So we linked their profile so you know their professional background 3) UI: As mentioned earlier we made our own in-house graphics through Canva and Blender, came with a colour pallet which is attractive but humble and made the whole experience as interactive as possible.

What we learned

Designing user interfaces and navigation menus, writing and reviewing code for sites, typically HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and backend through firebase, integrating multimedia content onto a site, testing web applications, troubleshooting problems with performance or user experience, collaborating with developers. We also learnt to showcase our skills, share our ideas and bring them to life, challenge ourself and overcome all the challenges that come our way, collaborate and work as a team under pressure.

What's next for Researcher's Spot

Maybe a AI bot "replika" which helps you refine the users researching experience. Asymmetric encryption for your logins since blockchain is on a rise and the users privacy and security will be exponentially be increased. ML for better visualisation of data and statistics on the dashboard. And a stimulation system for all the hardware based researchers.
