Inspiration
The idea for this project came from wanting to make research feel less like an exclusive club. Why keep cool discoveries behind closed doors? We wanted to create a platform where anyone, from science buffs to your next-door neighbor, could get excited about the amazing things researchers are up to.
What it does
The app lets you discover and support research projects from around the world. Dive into various topics, watch videos, and get behind-the-scenes access to labs. If you find a project you love, you can pledge support and be part of its journey. Connect with a community of science enthusiasts and researchers, making research accessible and engaging for everyone.
How we built it
We built it using the popular React.js library for the front end for our platform, we used ExpressJs for the backend, Firebase for authentication and Firestore for our database.
Challenges we ran into
One thing that was challenging initially was getting the sign up on the front end to communicate with the route on the backend. However once we identified the problems and fixed them, connecting the rest of the backend routes to the frontend was easy. Another thing that was challenging was initially coming up with an idea for our project and figure what we could do to make it stand out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our UI/UX is smooth and we managed to create a lot in a short amount of time.
What we learned
We learned how to use React to create components and pages on a web application. We also learned how to create routes with Express.js and interact with a Firestore database using their Node.js API.
What's next for ResearchBoost
In the future we'd like have a section to add videos, pictures and other media attachment to posts to make the posts for engaging for users and make them more interested in funding the projects.
