Inspiration
The primary goal of this project is to provide students with a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the ongoing research projects and current focuses of professors and researchers. This initiative aims to address the challenges students face in accessing this information through conventional means, such as internet sources or direct communication with professors, which can often be overwhelming or difficult to navigate. By leveraging this app, students can easily explore and learn more about various research areas and directions, empowering them to deepen their understanding and knowledge of academic research and probably join some.
What it does
We've developed a platform where professors and researchers can showcase their current research projects. Students can explore these projects and easily reach out to professors if they find them interesting. Professors also have the option to hire students directly through the platform. Additionally, we've integrated a recommendation system to streamline the selection process for professors, making it easier for them to identify potential candidates for their projects.
How we built it
We leveraged the MEAN stack for our project, utilizing MongoDB as the database with a basic schema to build the prototype. Angular was used to implement the full frontend functionality, while Node.js was chosen for developing the backend REST APIs. Additionally, we integrated a recommendation system using the chatgpt-API, which was seamlessly integrated through a fast API server written in Python.
Challenges we ran into
Prompt tuning for the recommendation was a thought-provoking task, other than that having managed only Machine Learning projects, handling full-stack projects for the first time was a challenge for the team.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have successfully implemented a fully functional application with a recommendation system, providing users with a range of features.
What we learned
Managing and Developing full-stack web apps.
What's next for Research-paradise
As our next steps, we plan to enhance the platform by enabling students to schedule in-person meetings with professors, addressing the challenge of contacting professors directly through email due to high volumes of messages. Additionally, we will integrate an online video-call platform for seamless communication. Furthermore, we aim to expand the platform into a comprehensive research community, offering features such as article writing and discussions to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among users.
