Inspiration
We were inspired by the overwhelming volume of academic literature and the need for tools that can help researchers, students, and academics digest and engage with papers more efficiently. We envisioned an AI-powered assistant that could not only summarize complex research but also make it interactive and easier to learn from.
What it does
ResearchLens transforms academic papers into structured, interactive learning experiences. It extracts content from PDFs, generates AI-powered summaries, quizzes, mind maps, and discovers related resources — all in a clean, user-friendly interface.
How we built it
- Frontend: Built using React (Vite, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS)
- Backend: Developed with FastAPI
- Authentication/Storage: Powered by Supabase
- AI Services: Integrated Mistral AI for OCR and Perplexity’s Sonar API for summaries, quizzes, mind maps, and resource discovery
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Seamless integration of multiple AI services to produce accurate, well-structured academic summaries
- Dynamic quiz and mind map generation based entirely on paper content
What we learned
- Deepened our understanding of AI and prompt engineering for academic tasks
- Learned to integrate multiple AI services within a single platform
What's next for research-insight-platform
- Add collaborative features for research groups
- Improve citation extraction and support inline reference linking
- Extend AI capabilities to include paper comparison and trend analysis
