Inspiration Natural disasters often leave people stranded without communication or resources. After experiencing a hurricane in our community, we decided to create RescueMe, a tool to assist during emergencies.

What It Does RescueMe provides real-time updates about natural disasters, including weather alerts, shelter locations, and emergency contact numbers. It also features an SOS function that sends your location to nearby rescue teams, even working offline.

How We Built It The app was developed using Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS. Mapping features use OpenStreetMap, while offline functionality is powered by SQLite databases.

Challenges We Ran Into Making the app work reliably offline was our biggest challenge. We spent weeks optimizing database functionality and testing syncing mechanisms.

Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of In a beta test, RescueMe helped 300 users coordinate a simulated evacuation. Seeing our project make an impact was incredibly fulfilling.

What We Learned This project taught us the importance of designing for high-stress scenarios and prioritizing user safety above all.

What’s Next for RescueMe We’re adding multilingual support and community-driven updates to make RescueMe useful worldwide.
