Inspiration
In Geneva we have noticed a rise in the homeless and hungry population, but noticed that there was a disconnect between food surplus and soup kitchens as it was difficult to get the surplus to the kitchens and we also figured out that 1 in 10 households in Switzerland struggle to afford a quality meal every other day.
What it does
It links restaurants with surplus to food kitchens, allowing volunteer drivers to bring food to kitchens picking it up from surplus stores with the best route
How we built it
It was built in visual studio code using HTML and CSS1
Challenges we ran into
Originally we wanted to do too much with this project and had to learn to lower the scope even though we had some impactful ideas that got left behind.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the live sync and leaflet API integration to work as we had no experience with making connected websites before.
What we learned
Though decision making, teamwork, graphic design, API integration and learning to work with AI to improve our work while keeping the human touch.
What's next for Rescue Root
The addition of more soup kitchens past the example location and perhaps a community test bike ride using rescue root to deliver food to soup kitchens while staying sustainable.
