Inspiration
The inspiration for reQualifyMe came from the frustration many job seekers face when trying to determine if they’re a good fit for a job posting. Reading through lengthy job descriptions and matching them against personal strengths can be overwhelming. We wanted to simplify this process by offering a clear, personalized match result that gives users confidence and actionable advice. Even a little celebration if they’re a great fit!
What it does
reQualifyMe analyzes a user's skills and strengths and compares them to a given job description. It then generates a result page showing if the user is a strong match, highlights aligned skills, and provides specific tips to strengthen their application. If a match is strong, a confetti animation celebrates the achievement, giving users a moment of encouragement in an otherwise stressful job search.
How we built it
We built the project using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. FontAwesome was used for icons, Google Fonts for typography, and canvas-confetti for dynamic animation. The design is fully responsive and styled with a consistent layout using external stylesheets and inline customizations where needed. We also included job description details and dynamic content like match highlights and user-tailored advice.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was structuring the content so that it was informative but not overwhelming. We had to balance aesthetics with clarity. Implementing the confetti animation in a way that felt smooth and celebratory, without being too distracting, also took some tweaking. Additionally, ensuring the layout remained responsive across screen sizes was an ongoing focus.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of how polished and user-friendly the interface looks and feels. The seamless integration of visual feedback like icons and confetti makes the experience more engaging. We're also proud of how the job description and personalized advice are displayed clear, actionable, and encouraging.
What we learned
We learned how to work with external libraries like canvas-confetti and FontAwesome, as well as how to make a project visually appealing through thoughtful design choices. We also deepened our understanding of user experience principles, especially the importance of feedback and encouragement in tools that users interact with during emotionally taxing processes like job hunting.
What's next for reQualifyMe
Next, we’d love to automate the comparison process by integrating natural language processing (NLP) so that users can paste their resume and job descriptions, and have the system analyze the match automatically. We’re also considering adding user login, resume storage, and a database of job postings. Long-term, we want reQualifyMe to become a go-to platform for job seekers looking for fast, clear, and motivating feedback.
