Inspiration
Modern software systems constantly evolve, and organizations often need to migrate from one technology stack to another. However, estimating the risks, effort, and complexity involved in such migrations is a difficult and time-consuming process. Developers often rely on manual analysis, documentation reviews, and experience-based assumptions.
We built RepoVision AI to simplify this process. Our goal was to create an AI-powered platform that can analyze a repository, understand its technology stack, and provide intelligent migration insights before development teams invest significant time and resources into migration projects.
What it does
RepoVision AI helps developers and organizations analyze software repositories and predict migration outcomes.
Key capabilities include:
- Repository analysis for GitHub and GitLab repositories
- Technology stack detection and visualization
- Migration risk prediction
- Engineering effort estimation
- Success probability forecasting
- AI-powered migration recommendations
- Migration roadmap generation
- Architecture intelligence insights
- Interactive dashboards and visual reports
- Demo walkthrough and educational resources
The platform enables teams to make informed decisions before starting large-scale technology migrations.
How we built it
RepoVision AI was built using a modern full-stack architecture.
Frontend:
- React.js
- Vite
- Tailwind CSS
- Framer Motion
- Recharts
Backend:
- Node.js
- Express.js
Integrations:
- GitHub API
- GitLab API
- Google Gemini AI
The application collects repository metadata from GitHub and GitLab, processes repository information through backend services, and uses AI-powered analysis to generate migration insights. The frontend visualizes these insights through interactive dashboards, charts, and reports.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was supporting both GitHub and GitLab repositories while maintaining a consistent user experience.
Some of the key challenges included:
- Handling different API structures between GitHub and GitLab
- Extracting meaningful repository information from public repositories
- Designing accurate migration predictions
- Creating a responsive and professional user interface
- Managing API limitations and quota restrictions during testing
- Ensuring visual reports remained clear and informative for users
We spent significant time refining the integration layer and improving the overall usability of the platform.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that RepoVision AI successfully delivers a complete end-to-end migration analysis experience.
Achievements include:
- Full GitHub repository support
- Full GitLab repository support
- Interactive migration impact reports
- AI-powered recommendations and predictions
- Professional and responsive user interface
- Repository technology visualization
- Risk assessment and effort estimation dashboards
- Embedded demo experience and educational resources
Most importantly, we transformed a complex migration planning process into a simple and intuitive workflow.
