Inspiration

Every developer has opened a 【entity-GitHub¦canonical_name=GitHub】 repo and felt lost. For our own projects Verdict and StudyRot in Surat, juniors took 2-3 days just to find where to start and many quit. File trees don't teach architecture. Documentation is text-only, so blind and auditory learners are left out. We wanted to turn any repo into a guide you can see, hear, and chat with in 30 seconds.

What it does

RepoScope takes any public 【entity-GitHub¦canonical_name=GitHub】 URL and builds a full learning system in <30s.

Live: repo-scope-nu.vercel.app | API: reposope.onrender.com/api/health | Public 【entity-GitHub¦canonical_name=GitHub】 with README | MIT licensed | Free tier only

1. Architecture Pyramid Graph Not a messy file tree. Custom React Flow layout that solves 200+ node collision. Row 0 = repo, Row 1 = entry points ranked by incoming*2+outgoing (most imported), Row 2-3 = core, Row 4-5 = utils. Color layers: client, backend, storage, external, compute. Click any node to see file, dependencies, dependents.

2. Q&A with Citations Chat with the codebase. LLM chain OpenRouter -> Groq free tier -> NVIDIA NIM with key_rotator and SSE streaming. Every answer comes with file name, function, and line number so you can verify.

3. Code Tours Auto-generated numbered tour badges that show the right order to read the repo - learning path in 1 minute.

4. Voice Code Tours - Accessibility Play button speaks each tour step using Web Speech API with auto-pan sync to the graph node. Built for blind/low-vision developers and auditory learners. First voice-guided codebase onboarding.

5. Student Onboarding Mode Turns the pyramid into a course: Level 1 Entry (Row1), Level 2 Core (Row2-3), Level 3 Utils (Row4-5). 3 quizzes per level, progress tracker, and Good First Issues picked from low-traffic safe files for first contribution. Cuts onboarding from days to 20 minutes.

6. What-If Impact Analysis Select a file, see blast radius: what breaks if you change it, risk score, and suggested tests to run. Visual + text impact.

7. PR Bot GitHub Action .github/workflows/pr-impact.yml that posts an impact PNG + risk score + suggested tests as a comment on every PR. Reviewers see risk before merging.

8. Security Scan SECRET detection via AKIA + entropy regex + .env leak detection, BREAKING change detection for major bumps, and CVE pattern scan - all with file/line.

9. Scaffold to Starter Kit Reverse prompt: turns any repo into runnable starter - file_tree + <50 lines boilerplate + TODOs + Download ZIP + Open in StackBlitz button. Like CodeCrafters for any repo.

What it helps with:

  • New dev onboarding to any codebase
  • Students learning architecture faster
  • Blind/low-vision devs learning via voice
  • Open-source maintainers reviewing PRs safely
  • Teams checking impact before refactoring
  • Security auditing for leaked keys
  • Teachers creating codebase courses
  • Anyone turning a repo into a tutorial

How we built it

Frontend: React 18 + Vite 6 + TypeScript + React Flow + Tailwind. Backend: Python 3.11 + FastAPI + SSE + httpx + GitPython + AST + regex graph_builder. LLM chain with multi-key rotation, GitHub REST API v3 BYOK memory-only. Built first version via Bob AI assistant across 8 sessions, then Z Code GLM for UI hardening and redesign.

Challenges we ran into

  • Graph collision for 200 nodes - built custom spacing
  • Free tier rate limits - built health check + key rotation
  • Voice sync vs camera pan - fixed with utterance boundaries
  • Scaffold hallucination - constrained to TODOs + JSON schema
  • Secret scan false positives - added entropy check

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Live in production loading Verdict and StudyRot <30s, 11 features built Sep 26-30
  • 200 OK on all endpoints, fresh codebase init September 26 2026
  • PR Bot posts real PNG comments on real PRs
  • Voice Tours working for accessibility
  • 20 min onboarding vs 2-3 days before
  • Fully open source, free, no paid APIs

What we learned

Visualization beats documentation. Ranking by incoming edges finds real entry points better than README. Students need a path Level 1/2/3 not just a graph. Voice + visual + text together teaches 10x faster than text alone. Free tier is enough to ship a real product.

What's next

  • VS Code extension webview wrapper
  • Team diff view to compare two repos
  • Auto-generate ADRs from graph changes
  • Deploy in college coding clubs for onboarding juniors
  • Product Hunt launch and keep free for everyone
