Inspiration

I talked with Mods , What is the issue they face not everyday , but it pops up 1 time and it's workaround is so normalized that it's fix/resolution will never be provided. It came out to be reports missing context and proper evidence. Report Extended is meant to fill that gap to ease the process for mods and take action based on a proper context and evidence.

What it does

Report Extended , Adds a "Report to Mods" button on every post and comment. Whenever user tap on it , it opens up a form where User can write issue with post/comment. Additionally if they want to provide evidence for a better context like if it is someone's stolen work or user is impersonating someone else or Report is hate speech which may user delete once called out , They can attach image with their report. When this is done and they submit report , It is sent to Mods via Modmail in a proper structure with proper context given by user and Link to the post/comment to take action right away.

How we built it

I built it with devvit and typescript .

Challenges we ran into

Due to newer version of devvit , there was a bug undefined : undefined : undefined , which was thrown for the app , this was beginning of Report Extended app , but it was eventually fixed from devvit team under 24hours , Huge thanks to them as Report Extended will not be here today if error wasn't fixed so fast.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of shortening the gap between user reports and mods , Mods always struggle with reports because they are just Rule Name , with no proper context it takes too much time . Reports received by Report Extended saves them time and energy mods waste sometimes finding proper context or evidences

What we learned

I have learned a lot about daily struggles of moderators of communities , how much efforts they put daily to make sure everything goes well in their community. I hope my this small app can bring help to their daily routine and help them take better decisions.

What's next for Report Extended

Report Extended will try to shorten the time even more in future , by providing a full context alongside the report directly so mods can save their time more and gives their best efforts taking decisions quickly and precisely
