Inspiration
Lectures move quickly, and taking detailed notes can make it harder to focus on understanding. We built Replay to help students stay present and turn recorded lectures into useful study materials afterward.
What it does
Replay lets students record a lecture or upload audio, transcribe it, and organize transcripts by course. Students can search past lectures, edit their transcripts, and create Superhuman documents with instructions for generating study notes and quizzes.
How we built it
We built Replay with SvelteKit and TypeScript, using SQLite to store transcripts, courses, and settings. Puter handles audio transcription, while the Superhuman integration creates documents from completed transcripts and helps students continue their study workflow.
Challenges we ran into
Getting browser recording, audio uploads, and transcription to work reliably took careful debugging. We also worked through autosaving, navigating between lectures, and browser restrictions around copying instructions and opening documents automatically. Getting the superhuman AI working with our project was difficult because our project runs locally.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We connected recording, transcription, storage, and document creation into a working flow. We also built a searchable course library that makes saved lectures easy to revisit.
What we learned
We learned how to coordinate browser audio, external APIs, and persistent storage.
What's next for Replay
We want to integrate agents more deeply to generate structured notes and quizzes automatically, improve transcription reliability, and add more features to improve a student's studying experience.
