Inspiration

With the growth of interest and participation in decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO), RepGrind improves the evaluation and invitation process for approving members and incentivizing good behavior. Our goal is to minimize the uncertainties of on-boarding community members based on scores and metrics associated with a person's crypto-asset wallet.

What it does

RepGrind helps us evaluate a wallet's reputation in a 'reputation marketplace' to streamline the decision making process for DAOs, based on variables such as non-fungible token (NFT) ownership, social involvement, type of transactions, etc. When you come to RepGrind, you enter a wallet identity or a set of identities that 'grind out your rep score' ;] Viewers can share the score through text and social media messaging, making decisions for review/entry into the DAO.

How we built it

We looked at properties that define a wallet ID, in consideration of a reputation system. Based on these properties, we prioritized variables that feed into accurate and fair reputation systems, grouping variables by theme and weighting them appropriately. From this point, a score is determined so people can share and view through various messaging applications.

Challenges we ran into

We discovered the obvious - that DAOs can be as diverse their community members. Hypothetically, any organization with a common purpose can be turned into a DAO. To meet the specific needs of a decentralized society, we must build something both malleable and standardized - something that can be shaped around new use cases while maintaining a set of constants that help organizations run with integrity.

Accomplishments we're proud of

We have the ability to score wallets and to take action - for example - deciding member entry/recommendation/standing in a particular DAO or online community.

What we learned

For each DAO, variables and metrics differ based on their goals, common agreements, and community vision. As a result, we came up with a reputation system marketplace to help DAOs pick the reputation system that meets their goals. We want this to be community-driven so we encourage individuals to build on top of existing reputation systems, making specific modifications accordingly.

What's next for RepGrind

We seek to work with DAOs to validate their metrics for member evaluation and we will refine reputation system scoring based on specific weighted variables. Our team includes leaders in Raid Guild and Berkeley Blockchain Xcelerator. We see these organizations as targets for initial deployment, as well as the following communities we've validated the concept with: JPG, StartupY, DailyReader, LitProtocol, Govrn, Station, POAP, OnDeck Community Builder DAO, Decentral Intelligence Agency (DIA), KindaNiceDAO.
