RentShare was inspired by a common problem faced by college students: they often need items such as calculators, books, lab equipment, project kits, cycles, and electronics for a short period, but buying them can be expensive. We wanted to create a simple platform where students could rent what they need and share what they own.

We built RentShare as a student-to-student rental platform with features such as student authentication, item listings, search and availability, rental requests, owner approval, security deposits, chat, rental history, and reviews.

During development, we learned about web development, Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Storage, database design, and building real-world user workflows. We also worked on our Lean Canvas, VRIO, Revenue Model, and Go-to-Market strategy.

One of our main challenges was connecting the complete rental workflow while maintaining correct item availability and user interactions. We are currently testing the prototype with the goal of starting within a college community and expanding to other colleges.
