Inspiration
We want the world to be more sustainable and use more renewable energies, because relying on non renewable energies such as coal is gonna harm our planet soon, and they release too many carbon emissions. For this reason, after careful consideration with my team, we have decided to do the Renewable Energy Calculator. It's a quick calculator on what to expect when someone goes into a more sustainable lifestyle and delves into solar energy.
What it does
Our Renewable Energy Calculator is a practical tool that helps users estimate the potential of solar energy generation, assess financial savings, and understand the positive impact on the environment. It aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 7 - 'Affordable and Clean Energy.' By providing valuable insights and data, our calculator empowers individuals to make informed decisions for a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
How we built it
In the quiet depths of a shared passion for sustainability, a trio of innovators embarked on a transformative journey. Sharan, the coding virtuoso, laid the foundation in the realm of backend wizardry, orchestrating the logic that powered the Renewable Energy Calculator. Varun, the frontend maestro, sculpted its elegant interface, ensuring seamless user experiences. Alongside, Pranav, the meticulous tester, meticulously combed through every line of code, ensuring perfection.
Together, fueled by the desire to make a difference, they delved into the intricate world of renewable energy. Countless hours were spent refining algorithms, designing intuitive interfaces, and conducting rigorous tests. Challenges were met with resilience, setbacks were conquered with determination. The result? A tool that not only calculated numbers but also breathed life into the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 7.
Their story is one of collaboration and dedication, a tale of code and creativity, all woven together to craft a platform that empowers others. This calculator stands not just as a testament to their skills but as a beacon, guiding others towards a sustainable future.
Challenges we ran into
As beginner developers, this was all very new to us. It was very confusing for me, the backend developer, to edit any of the things in the user interface, which where my trusty teammate, the interface developer, saved all of my headaches and we split work. While I did what I was good at, javascript coding the calculator, while he did the user interface. After specializing our skills, communicating, and working together, along with our tester who looked for any bugs and fixes in our code, we were able to make a functional, good renewable energy calculator.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud to learn more about coding and programming in javascript, it was our first project and we're very glad that it came out quite well. We made progress in my journey of finally entering the computing world which is the path we're aiming for, and we're happy this is the first step we have taken towards it.
What we learned
we learnt a lot more about javascript coding and backend developing. we also learnt some effective communication skills while collabrating with our team. Honestly I(Sharan) don't talk much in group projects but I was heavily involved here, which I am very glad to be a part of.
What's next for Renewable Energy Calculator
With more experience, in some time, our team could create a much better website and calculator. Not only solar, but wind, geothermal, etc, and so on, we could create a calculator for all of them. It could even include complex algorithms and estimations based on the location and the sunlight of the location, and more user friendly interfaces with more functions, details and specifications for people seriously into investing into renewable energy, which whom we are aiming to support. However, as beginner developers, this is our current level, but we are proud of it, and will be aiming much higher.
